February:
National Adoption Network
The National Adoption Network's inspiration comes from the belief that " there are no unwanted children, just unfound families" ™ . From that perspective they provide the following free adoptive services: Public Awareness and Recruitment, Information and Referral and Publications.
On Saturday, March 31, NAC will be holding a Statewide Adoptive and Permancy Network (SWAN) Older Youth Match Party for adoptive families. An older youth match party is a carefully planned event designed to bring together youth waiting to be adopted with approved, homestudied families interested in adopting them.

Welcome and Congrats!
Join us as we welcome new Board Members and staff and congratulate our Board President!
Child Advocates is pleased to welcome new friends and colleagues into our circle. Deborah Baird of Eckert Seamans and Deborah Cohen of Pepper Hamilton will join the current Board of Directors as enthusiastic and committed advocates.
Child Advocates also welcomes two passionate young lawyers, Anthony Andreoli (Law Offices at Anthony M. Andreoli) and Tara Thompson (Robert J. Casey, Jr. & Associates) onto the Board as observers through the Board Observation Program, an initiative of the Young Lawyers Division of The Philadelphia Bar Association that gives young lawyers practicing in Philadelphia the opportunity to learn more about local legal services organizations and to gain the leadership skills necessary to serve on such boards.
Additionally, we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our Board President Katayun Jaffari, who has joined Ballard Spahr as a Business and Finance partner in Philadelphia.
Congratulations, Kathy!
Our staff has also grown! In the past two weeks we have welcomed Naja Macon, LSW, into our office as a Staff Social Worker and Gerald Weaber as our Operations Manager. Naja has her BSW, MSW, and LSW, and worked previously with children at Best Nest, a foster care and adoption agency, and provided therapy for kids at CATCH Inc. She aspires to obtain her DSW and someday teach on the university level. Gerald brings extensive operations experience to Child Advocates from his previous role as Administration Manager for Women's World Banking in Manhattan. A Philadelphia native and Temple University grad, Gerald lives with his wife Patricia Lynch in Riverton, NJ,. where he serves as President of the local historical society. Welcome to the Child Advocates Team! |
Child Advocates Visit WHYY
Thanks to all of our staff, Board and friends who helped us recently to man the phones for the WHYY Radio Fund Drive.
Good news! We already heard back from WHYY and have been invited to do another fund drive. Much sooner than expected, so we must have been really good on the radio.
This time we will be on live TV - a great publicity opportunity with an added bonus of getting some airtime for an interview.
Do you want to be on TV? We still need volunteers to help out on Tuesday, March 13 from 5-11pm. Call or e-mail Moira Mulroney at 267-546-9208 or mmulroney@advokid.org if you'd like to get involved.
And tune in to see Child Advocates get some airtime for our mission and support public broadcasting! |
